Since 1982, we have been promoting and delivering Anthroposophic Therapies. It all began in the minds of a few visionary community members…
OUR PAST
The first inspiration for our Centre came from Anne Hapke and Maxene Hewitt in the early 1980s. They were searching for a therapy centre to support their cancer treatment and healing. They expressed a desire for an Anthroposophical centre with “places to walk, to sit beneath the trees” where they could “breathe in the life of the earth.”
In April 1982, they rose to the challenge and, with Joan Salter’s help, formed the Association of the MTC, then called The Melbourne Therapy Centre for Cancer and Other Patients. Our primary aim was to raise funds to establish the centre with the necessary Anthroposophical therapies to support people undergoing treatment for such serious diseases.
After 2 years of community fundraising, in 1984 we purchased 34 Quamby Road in Warranwood. This property was sold two years later and our current facility was purchased in 1986. With a small group of dedicated therapists, the Centre was able to offer Curative Eurythmy, Rhythmical Massage, Nursing Care and Art Therapy, alongside caring, conventional medicine. The Centre quickly grew and opened a new wing in May 2007.
