What is it?
In Art Therapy, the client’s artistic expression is the primary means of engagement between client and therapist. Art Therapy can help reveal psychological dynamics that may be compromising a client's health and vitality. Art Therapy can help those enduring a personal crisis to gain greater insight and resilience.
Over the course of several sessions, a trained therapist makes a variety of art materials available. Other forms of expression such as narrative, movement, gesture and role-play may also be used. The therapist guides and supports this process to help facilitate the integration of the client's experiences, while ensuring their psychological safety.
Art Therapy is suitable for children through to the elderly and can be used alongside other forms of treatment in the management of chronic disease and mental health.
